I love Italian food, who doesn’t? Every time I pass by the restaurant, I can’t resist the smell. But we don’t go to Olive Garden often, because we love it. Seems strange right? We want to preserve the love we have for their food, and that’s way we go only on special occasions.
The other day, I remembered their delicious and warm breadsticks. Since we did not have any occasion to go, I have thought of making them at home.
Here is the recipe.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups warm water
1 packet active dry yeast
4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 Tablespoon unsalted butter melted
2 Tablespoon sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
Directions
In a bowl, mix warm water, yeast and sugar. Cover with lid and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a large bowl, add all-purpose flour and salt, give a mix and then add melted butter.
Add yeast mixture to the flour and start mixing.
If you do not have electric mixer, then try to mix with hand. Mix until the dough until smooth and elastic, it will take few minutes.
Spray the cookie sheet with non stick spray. Pull off pieces of dough and roll out into strips. I pulled too much dough, that’s why my breadsticks are a bit larger, lesson learnt. Since there is yeast in it, the size is going to increase in double. So make sure you don’t pulled too much dough.
Cover the cookie sheet with a wrap and let sit in a warm place for an hour. I placed mine in the oven leaving the setting to warm.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Once heated, place them in the oven and move on to making the topping.
In microwave, mix 1 stick unsalted butter, 2 teaspoons garlic powder and 1 teaspoons salt.
After breadsticks have baked for 7-8 minutes, open the oven and brush the breadsticks with half the butter mixture, then continue to bake for 6-8 more minutes. Remove them from the oven, and brush the other half of the butter. Let them cool for two minutes before serving.
Enjoy the delicious and warm Olive Garden breadsticks at your home 🙂
